St Dominic Catholic Primary

If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

It was lovely to see the children back looking refreshed after their half term holidays and hear about their experiences.

In English, we have started our poetry unit and the children have used their senses to explore the weather.  They enjoyed working together in a small group to perform ‘When the Wind Blows’ poem and used musical instruments to represent sound effects.

During Maths, the children have been ‘regrouping’ numbers within 10. They have been using the part-whole model and objects to add two and three numbers together. Through the tasks, children have been exploring that addition can be done in any order. Next week, the children will be subtracting numbers.

Through our RE topic, we have been listening to the Bible story ‘Let the little children come’. This helped us understand that each and every one of us is important to Jesus. We have also been discussing the sacrament of Baptism and have looked at the signs and symbols linked to this celebration.

We began our Geography topic this week on the Arctic Circle. We started by discussing the meaning of Geography and then used a globe to locate the Arctic Circle and the countries that are included in this region.

Thank you to those who were able to attend the Phonics and Reading meeting on Friday. The slides will be emailed to parents. If any parents need to discuss a query related to this then please do get in touch. To support reading ‘Alien’ words we will be using ‘Phonics Play’ in the spring and summer term. This can be accessed at www.phonicsplay.co.uk.

Have a lovely weekend!
