Autumn Term 5
For the past two weeks, Year 2 have continued to learn about exciting people, a different faith and have started nativity preparations.
At the beginning of the week, Year 2 had the exciting opportunity to speak to a rabbi. We spent the afternoon learning about Judaism and about their celebration called the Shabbat. It was really interesting to learn about why the Shabbat is a holiday, all the preparations involved and any of the similarities between Judaism and Christianity. It was great to be able to speak to a rabbi and ask all of our questions about some of their traditions, what language they pray in, where they pray and what the role of a rabbi is. We even had the opportunity to link our big question about diversity when we discussed the importance of learning and being aware about other faiths.
For our topic lessons, we have continued to explore significant people, who have brought about positive change. Using LACE to help us be the best historians we can be, we researched Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafzai. We discussed how both women were courageous for standing up for what they believe in, such as equal rights and how they demonstrated a growth mindset by never giving up and persevering. Then, we reflected on the different ways in which we could continue to show a growth mindset inside and outside the classroom.
This week, Year 2 have been really excited to begin the Nativity rehearsals. Now everyone has their scripts and are learning their lines. We have started practising the songs and are beginning to start acting in the classroom. We cannot wait to share our performance with you soon!
