St Dominic Catholic Primary

If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

Blast off!

This week we have started a new DIMENSIONS theme – Blast Off!   It was out of this world! Our story focus was 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy - a story about a bear who travels to the moon in a cardboard box. We have written our own simple sentence about going to the moon. We have been learning about the Planets using non-fiction books and videos and have enjoyed finding out about the International Space Station. We enjoyed so many different Space-related activities - the children made spaceships and rockets, have drawn astronauts and used coloured chalks to create pictures of different planets. They are learning songs and rhymes about ‘Space’.

Ask your child to tell you something they have learned about Space this week.

In RE we heard the words from the Bible which tell us about The Presentation of Jesus at the temple where Jesus met Simeon and Anna who blessed him and proclaimed him as a ‘light for the world’.  Some children enjoyed dressing up as a character from the story.  Others created a candle which as a symbol represents the light of God.

A WOW moment is a chance for parents to celebrate their child’s  interests and achievements at home, such as writing their name, using a computer or tablet confidently, getting dressed independently, enjoying a book together, helping you to cook, learning something new at an outside club or activity, enjoying a fun day out or an interesting visit or sharing an exciting family holiday destination.  Please don’t forget to add your WOW moments to TAPESTRY, especially after a school break.

Have a lovely weekend,
