Chinese New Year
Welcome back to our class blog.
Wow! We have had a very busy couple of weeks in Reception!
Last week we celebrated Chinese New Year. The children listened to the Lunar New Year story, and then had the opportunity to make animal masks and act out the story. They also wrote about the story and which Lunar year it is.
The children watched videos about how Chinese New Year is celebrated, and acted it out in the Role Play area. The children even had the opportunity to taste some traditional food, and they enjoyed making money wallets.
This week has been Mental Wellbeing week; it has been very busy and lots of fun! There have been lots of activities happening around school, such as yoga, dancing, listening and exploring activities and a resilience workshop too!
Together we read the story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. The children were then encouraged to use their phonics to write sentences in response to the story - everybody worked really hard!
In Maths we have been learning about the different parts of a whole number. We started by using a large dice and the children were encouraged to describe the number they had by explaining how they could see it. They then moved on to use objects to represent parts of the whole number, for example three shells and two stones.
In RE we finished our ‘Celebrating’ topic with the children talking about why we celebrate. This week we have started our new topic ‘Gathering’.
Well done to all of the Reception children, they have all worked so hard!
We wish you all a safe and happy half term.
