Diwali, Fireworks and Poppies!
Welcome back to our class blog.
We have been very busy in Reception!
Last week our theme was ‘Diwali’. We listened to the story of ‘Rama and Sita’. In Literacy we used our phonics to describe some of the characters in the story.
The children also had the opportunity to make their own Rangoli patterns, Mendhi hand patterns and Diva lamps. The children acted out the story and worked in small groups to talk about the characters. We even sampled some traditional food too!
This week our theme has been ‘Fireworks’. We have listened to the story ‘Sparks in the Sky’. The children used their phonics to describe the noises that fireworks make. We have also taken part in Remembrance Day activities.
In Maths we have been learning about ‘pattern’. The children have explored pattern and created their own with lots of different resources. We have talked about the way that patterns repeat themselves and the various types of patterns.
In RE we have consolidated our learning about ‘Welcome’. The children have created their own Baptismal candle and they have all responded to their learning by explaining why welcome is important.
Please continue to read with your children regularly at home and sign and date their reading records. Just to remind you that book bags need to be in school every day please.
Each child has brought home some information about Show and Tell today, which will start next week.
A gentle reminder to please label everything clearly and children should bring a named water bottle each day.
From next week, please encourage the children to put their homework book in the box (by Wednesday) once they have done their homework.
One final note, please check the forest school list each week and ensure your child is ready for their session on the day, thank you.
Thank you for your continued support with your child(ren)’s learning.
We wish you a happy and restful weekend.
Miss Day
