St Dominic Catholic Primary

If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

The children have been discovering similarities and differences between different cultures and beliefs by learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali.  We have used  sequins and glitter to create colourful Diya lamps and heard the traditional story of Rama and Sita. We tried some new foods: poppadum’s, naan bread, pakoras, vegetable samosas and some delicious Diwali sweets which we made from coconut, dates, and condensed milk.

Last week we talked about fireworks and shared experiences of fireworks that we had seen (and heard!). We made some lovely firework pictures - please have a look at the display by the coat pegs! We heard the story, ‘The Night Journey ‘ which begins in a darkened garage and ends with a brilliant firework display.

At the end of the week, we talked about why lots of people wear poppies. We took part in some different activities to make our own poppies and had a special time (2 minutes silence at 11am) in nursery when we said thank you to God for all the brave men and women during times of war.

Have a  lovely weekend.
