Hanukkah
Welcome back to our class blog.
Last week started our new RE topic ‘Birthdays’. The children had lots of fun celebrating Jigsaw Jack’s birthday. We made cards, sang Happy Birthday and had party food.
In Literacy this week the children have used their phonics to write the names of characters from the Nativity and they have sequenced pictures from the beginning of the story.
This week we have spent time practising songs for our Christmas Nativity. Please can you send in a Christmas jumper for your child to wear for the recording on Monday next week, in a named bag.
This week’s topic has been ‘Hanukkah’. The children have listened to the story and have learned that it is the Jewish festival of light. We discussed the similarities and differences between that and other festivals of light that we know.
Please find your child’s homework book in their book bag with this half-term’s homework.
If your child has not yet been sent home with a reading book, please take some time to practise the sounds: ‘s, a, t, p, i, n’ and create some CVC words with them. E.g. ‘man’, ‘tin’. Practise segmenting and blending these sounds and encourage them to hear the blend in order for them to read the words. Thank you for your continued support with this.
With that in mind, if your child has reading books, please ensure they have them and their reading records in school every day (especially a Friday) as it makes it easier when preparing books for the following week.
Have a lovely weekend!
