Lunar New Year 2023
Welcome back to our class blog.
Thank you for sharing your photos and videos with us on Tapestry - the children have enjoyed sharing them.
It has been a busy two weeks!
Last week our topic was the gingerbread man. We listened to the story before sequencing it and using our phonics to write about the characters. We also carefully painted our own gingerbread men, thinking about the correct sized brush. We ended the week by baking gingerbread men of our own. We all took turns to mix the dough before rolling it out and cutting out our shape.
This week our theme has been “Lunar New Year‘’. In Literacy we listened to the story of ‘The Great Race’ before using our phonics to write the names of some of the characters. Some children wrote sentences too! We also used props to act out the story in role play.
We have made Chinese lanterns, money wallets and painted our own dragons. We have also explored some of the traditions from the Lunar New Year celebrations and tasted some traditional Chinese food.
In Phonics we have almost finished learning our sounds and we have been working really hard on writing words with digraphs and trigraphs. Please continue to support them with this at home.
In Maths we have been learning about ‘Counting the sort’. The children have worked hard on this to ensure they are counting a set of objects correctly and recalling how many are in the set.
In RE we have started a new topic, ‘Celebrating’. Last week we listened to the story of Anna and Simeon and talked about Jesus being the light of the world.
Please continue to read with your children regularly at home and sign and date their reading records. Just to remind you that book bags need to be in school every day please.
A gentle reminder to please label everything clearly and children should bring a named water bottle each day.
Please encourage the children to put their homework book in the box (by Wednesday) once they have done their homework.
One final note, please check the forest school list each week and ensure your child is ready for their session on the day, thank you.
Thank you for your continued support with your children’s learning.
We wish you a happy and restful weekend.
Miss Day
