Our First Days
Welcome to our class blog!
Firstly, a huge well done to all of the children (and grown-ups!) for their resilience and hard work over their first two weeks! We are very impressed!
The children have all been getting to know one another, they have played inside and outside, showing kindness and love to those around them.
We have started our topic ‘Happy To Be Me’. Within the topics, each week has a theme. Last week’s theme was ‘Who Am I’ - the children were encouraged to think about themselves and how they are different to those around them. The children were invited to paint self portraits, thinking about their hair and eye colour etc.
We have also started our phonics teaching. The children have learned the first four sounds this week and are doing really well so far!
This week our theme has been ‘Eyes and Ears’. The children have been thinking about what we use our eyes and ears for and what it means to be blind or deaf. The children went on sound walks and thought about what they could hear, this then linked to our Literacy where the children were encouraged to think about the first sound of what they could hear. For example, b for bird. The children then drew what they could hear and some had a go at writing the letters.
We have started our Maths teaching, too. This week we have started learning about subitising. This is when we recognise how many objects are in a set without counting them. The children have been encouraged to look at dots on dice and dominoes and talk about what they can see. We will continue this next week.
Children will be coming home with a book. This is a book for pleasure - it is for you to read to them, for you to enjoy together. They are not expected to be able to read it.
Please make sure all belongings are clearly named.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
