St Dominic Catholic Primary

If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

World Book Day!

It has been another busy two weeks!

Last week our topic was Hep at Home. We listened to the story ‘Why should I help’ before using our phonics to write about parts of the story.

The children particularly enjoyed acting out the story and dressing up in the role play area!

This week our theme has been Help at School. We have read the story ‘Superhero like you’. The children have used their phonics to write sentences about different people that help at school.

In Phonics we have finished learning our sounds and we have been working really hard on writing words with digraphs and trigraphs as well as using our ‘chunk it up’ skills to read longer words. Please continue to support them with this at home as well as handwriting and letter formation.

In Maths we have been learning about ‘Regrouping the whole’ - the children have been exploring the whole number and parts within it. For example, 5 is the whole number and the parts within it are 2 and 3, or 4 and 1.

In RE we have continued with our topic ‘Gathering’. We talked through when the children gathered around Jesus to be blessed.

The children have had a busy week this week - thank you all for your support with World Book Day, the children all looked wonderful! Lots of fun was had. We all enjoyed a wonderful workshop with Professor Pango Mango and the children all enjoyed showing off their costumes!

Please continue to read with your children regularly at home and sign and date their reading records. Just to remind you that book bags need to be in school every day please.

A gentle reminder to please label everything clearly and children should bring a named water bottle each day.

Please encourage the children to put their homework book in the box (by Wednesday) once they have done their homework. Please complete the homework in the books as much as possible.

One final note, please check the forest school list each week and ensure your child is ready for their session on the day, thank you.

Thank you for your continued support with your children’s learning.

We wish you a happy and restful weekend!
