World Book Day
Welcome back to our class blog.
We have had another busy two weeks in Reception!
Last week was all about our favourite toys. The children enjoyed listening to ‘Kipper’s Toybox’ before talking and writing about their own favourite toy. The children have been working really hard to independently use their phonics to segment words one by one. They have also been trying really hard to remember capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In RE last week, we talked about Gathering and what it means to gather. Our classroom was transformed into a church and the children all blessed themselves on the way in before sitting down to listen and sing.
This week has been exciting too. The children have enjoyed listening to and acting out the story of 'Goldilocks and the three bears' and they have used their phonics and writing skills to write a sentence or some words about their favourite part of the story. The children also had the opportunity to sample some porridge!
On Shrove Tuesday, the children enjoyed pancakes together at snack time.
In Maths, across the two weeks, the children have taken part in various activities around ‘regrouping the whole’, and have learned that there are small parts of a whole and therefore there are parts within a whole number. The children have worked hard to establish what the parts are and for some, how many parts are in the number.
The children have all taken part in World Book Day and they looked incredible! Thank you for all your efforts - a wonderful was had by all! Professor Pango Mango visited and he explored poetry with the children as well as creative story-telling - children and staff had a great time with him!
Please continue to read with your children at home, as often as possible and please sign and date their reading records. You will notice that your children have come home with two books this week instead of one. One of them has been read with an adult in school this week - details in reading records. Please support your children with one or both as much as you can over the coming week.
Thank you all for your continued support and have a lovely weekend.
